    Produce Bags

O.k... so the whole world is moving away from plastic bags (And it's about time eh....)   The whole world that is, except for the produce section.  Still the only option there is to tear 6 or 8 or 10 bags off that big roll and carry out your produce in them.

I have considered bringing my own zip-loc bags.  At least they'd be re-usable.

Any one here got a better idea??

    :-)

    Re: Produce Bags

I see people just putting them straight into the reusable bags.  Just give them a quick scrub when you get home to get off anything when the cashier weighs them at the checkout.

little tiny reusable bags? Stick out tongue

Good question.  I'm sure it's only a matter of time before we see reusable bags that have multiple pockets and compartments from fashion designers.

I think bringing your own ziploc type baggies is the way to go. I only put the smaller items in baggies and I don't use twist ties. I just tie the bag.

Hm, that is a good question. I have never really thought about it. Maybe someone should come up with a light weight washable line of bags just for this purpose?

I personally never even thought about this one but you are so right. And when you do tear them off half the time more than one comes off and I am sure that happens to other people. So they probably throw alot of these extras that never even get used away also.

When I was young, the only bags in the produce section were small and brown paper.  The problem with those is that roaches love to use them for breeding.

Why not save the plastic bags you get at the produce section and take them back with you, inside your reusable cloth bags?  That way, you at least know where the plastic bags have been, since you used them last!

Because there's no good, easy way to clean them between uses...

I bet that would work.  Maybe you could rinse them off and hang them outside.  The sun would disinfect it.

A little dip in some water with "Basic-H" or a similar cleaning compound should do the trick.  Then dab off extra water and allow to air dry.  They would probably be cleaner than when torn off the roll at the grocery store.

zip loc bag is good but reusable bags are better. you can wash it and use it up to  ten times. plus its a cloth so you can assure it can hold on heavy things for a long time.
